I’ve long heard about the benefits of apple cider vinegar, turmeric and lemon water.
Lemon water makes it into my routine on a more frequent basis, but I seem to fight myself with the other two ingredients.
Drinking apple cider vinegar is not all that fun but has many health benefits. Lower blood sugar levels, helps with weight loss, kills bacteria and may even kill cancer cells.
Turmeric also has anti-inflammatory benefits and is a strong anti-oxidant.
Lemon water aids in digestion, boosts energy and strengthens your immune system.
So why not try them all together?
It seemed like a perfect one to try first for experimenting with morning elixirs, as I like to call them. Or a Monday morning reset, in today’s case.
Have you ever heard of, or tried the “master cleanse?”
It’s basically spicy lemonade: lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper.
I bought one from a juice cleanse place once and wasted my $4 because I couldn’t force it down. Way too spicy and not enough sweetener.
After making this drink I realized it’s basically a twist on the master cleanse by adding apple cider vinegar and turmeric.
It’s still not the most delicious drink ever (one gal’s opinion) but you can at least tweak it as needed to make it more appealing to your own taste buds.
The proportions that work for me are:
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (make sure to get the kind with “mother”)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- pinch of cayenne pepper
Start with just a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar if you’re afraid of the taste, and work your way up. I’ve heard the cayenne pepper helps the body absorb the turmeric.
With all the health benefits these ingredients are suppose to have, it’s no wonder this drink kind of gives me a little buzz of energy!
Either that or I’m so happy to be done with it? It’s definitely something I CAN drink every morning but it takes some getting used to.
It helps (me) to add a fun straw to drink it with. Or just power through.
Do you think you’ll try this turmeric elixir? Let me know!

I was a bit nervous but this tasted better than I thought it would! In addition to the listed ingredients, I added a pinch of black pepper to optimize the turmeric absorption and some cinnamon. Thanks for the recipe!

At first when my husband told me, I thought yuk tumeric, but when I tried it, it wasn't bad to drink. I heat the water like I would tea. The lemon really overpowers the vinegar and turmeric, and I use honey. It's like a warm lemonade. After the first try, I didn't mind it at all. Now that I know that it should help raise my alkalinity, I'll incorporate it more.

I love this drink, But I'm afraid of drinking it on a empty stomach, too much acid, so a have my coffee and almonds first. wait an hour and then drink the detox mix. I 'm having my blood work done next month, I hope it's helping my liver.

@J, here is one for you. https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/forefront/health-and-wellness-articles/debunking-the-health-benefits-of-apple-cider-vinegar
too much ACV can have some consequences to your teeth, among other things.

@Judy, could you direct me to a website where the research shows vinegar to be harmful or bad for you? WebMB and Harvard only show the healthy benefits of ACV. But, some of these sites can be one sided. Which book or site did you come across? Or was it your personal experience? Sounds terrible.

I did this and after 2 days the lining of my stomach was inflamed and so was my esophagus. Have never had stomach issues before. Had to have Endoscopy and more on meds to heal it. To learn more about the toxic effects of vinegar, especially to the liver do more research.

@Bevjane, salad dressings have the same amount of vinegar in them, so the beverage is not necessarily the issue. If anyone is experiencing health issues, best to speak to a provider first. Any acidic foods (also including tomato based, caffeine, oranges, lemons, etc) can irritate the lining of the stomach, so consult a provider before use if you have tummy trouble. You can also eat a little something prior to eating acidic foods to protect your stomach. Slippery elm root supplements coat your stomach lining and can be taken on an empty stomach to further help.

Sorry this happened to you! Some people take ACV shots plain but this is why I mix with water. Always good to pay attention to your body and stop at first sign of any adverse reaction.

Thank you for this post! I have been buying the turmeric root and making tea with ginger, cinnamon stick and black pepper. Your Morning Drink is really good.. I have found some wonderful vinegars made by the “American Vinegar Works” and the taste is unbelievable…so good. The cranberry apple cider vinegar in your drink is delicious! Tried to copy a picture but unable to do that. Be sure and look into this company. You will be pleasantly surprised! Thanks again for your post!
