  • All-purpose flour
  • Brown sugar
  • Cold unsalted butter
  • Granny smith apples (could also use honey crisp apples, gala apples, or a mixture of your favorite apple varieties)
  • Spices: cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
  • Caramel sauce or soft caramel candies (not hard candy), I like this organic caramel sauce or these candies without artificial flavorings

Ingredients

  • 8 cups granny smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves
  • 1 1/2 cups caramel sauce (or 11 ounces soft caramel candies)
  • 3 cups old fashioned oats
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (gluten-free flour to keep it gluten-free friendly if needed)
  • 1 ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup butter, cold

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray or butter and set aside.
  2. Toss the apples with the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Spread in an even layer in the baking dish. Drizzle caramel sauce evenly over the apples (saving some for the topping if desired) or if using soft caramel candies, unwrap and spread them out evenly over the apples.
