- 8 cups granny smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon cloves
- 1 1/2 cups caramel sauce (or 11 ounces soft caramel candies)
- 3 cups old fashioned oats
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (gluten-free flour to keep it gluten-free friendly if needed)
- 1 ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup butter, cold
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray or butter and set aside.
- Toss the apples with the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Spread in an even layer in the baking dish. Drizzle caramel sauce evenly over the apples (saving some for the topping if desired) or if using soft caramel candies, unwrap and spread them out evenly over the apples. Set side.
- In a large mixing bowl combine the oats, flour and brown sugar. Use a pastry cutter to cut in the butter until little pea sized balls form. Spread the mixture in an even layer over the apples and caramels.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until crispy, then remove and allow to cool slightly before serving.
