The easiest little no-bake heart shaped chocolate pomegranate candy bites, with three options for mixing up the flavors. Vegan friendly, gluten free, delicious and perfect for your Valentine.
YOU GUYS. I made these 5 different ways and I couldn’t settle on just one way to share them with you, so I’m sharing them all!
The basic idea of these was adapted from Chocolate Covered Katie, which is essentially just melted chocolate + pomegranate seeds.
However, especially if you’re melting chocolate in the microwave, it has a tendency to burn. So the first time I tried it I decided to go muddy-buddy style and add in peanut butter!
Wait, is muddy buddy style not a saying? I just mean that similar to the muddy buddies snack (or puppy chow for the animals that call it so) I added peanut butter to make the chocolate smoother (and more delicious).
Result:
You can’t even tell there is peanut butter in there, can you?
{Side note: This is actually an ice tray from IKEA. There’s a link in the recipe where you can find a similar heart shaped candy mold.}
But if you’re someone who is skeptical about the idea of peanut butter, chocolate AND pomegranate seeds, I decided it’s best to split up the flavors.
So you have OPTIONS.
Instead, I added a bit of coconut oil to the chocolate chips to melt – chocolate base
Melt the peanut butter separately = peanut butter drizzle
+ Pomegranate seeds (arils)
and mix and match the flavors like so.
You can have some chocolate and pomegranate seed bites…
(I’ve seen them called pom poms, should we call them chocolate pom poms?)
Or some heart-shaped chocolate and peanut butter candy bites…
AND/OR a few chocolate, peanut butter, and pomegranate seed bites.
So, what do you say? Do you want one, two, or all three?
I know my answer.
These are PERFECT for Valentine’s Day, or any time you need a heart shaped treat.
Who’s your Valentine?
Heart-shaped Chocolate Candy Bites - 3 ways (pomegranate and peanut butter option)
The easiest little heart shaped chocolate pomegranate candy bites, with three options for mixing up the flavors. Vegan friendly, gluten free, delicious and perfect for your Valentine.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (I've tried both dark chocolate chips and semi-sweet, use a vegan option if needed)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter (optional, see notes)
- 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
Instructions
- In a small bowl, add chocolate chips and coconut oil. Heat in microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until melted.
- In a second small bowl, melt peanut butter (roughly 30 seconds in microwave), stir.
- In a heart-shaped candy mold or ice cube mold, pour in melted chocolate, leaving extra room in some of them. Add in melted peanut butter to the shapes with extra room. Top with pomegranate seeds as desired.
- Place in fridge or freezer until hardened, at least 10 minutes. Enjoy! Keep leftovers in fridge.
Notes
*See post for pictures on flavor varieties.
I made some with the melted chocolate + pomegranate seeds, some with melted chocolate + melted peanut butter, and a few with melted chocolate + melted peanut butter + pomegranate seeds.
