Frozen Hot Chocolate

An easy recipe for frozen hot chocolate! A delicious spin on the classic comfort drink, have your hot cocoa any time of year!

I can speak from personal experience just how good a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity is on a hot day (see: my trip to Vegas).

If you’re not lucky enough to live close enough to one (I think it’s now only in New York City?) you can make an easy homemade version yourself!

The basic recipe is super simple: ice, milk, hot cocoa mix. But there are ways to make it extra indulgent.

You can use chocolate milk instead of milk. Extra quality chocolate melted into the base. Even add some peppermint sticks depending on the time of year. Or you can also use some sweetened condensed milk to make it extra creamy and indulgent!

That last idea came from the hot chocolate ice cream recipe I made. My preferred version of this would be half full fat chocolate milk, half sweetened condensed milk – and you honestly wouldn’t even have to use hot cocoa mixes with that variety, since it already has the cocoa and sweetness.

Whichever way you make it, top with whipped cream, marshmallow cream, chocolate sprinkle and/or syrup! This could even be a fun DIY hot cocoa bar activity with topping options and mason jars.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups chocolate milk
  • 2 packets hot cocoa mix
  • 4 cups ice
  • optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles!

Instructions

  1. Add the milk, hot cocoa packets, and ice to your blender.
  2. Blend for at least 60 seconds, or until it reaches your desired consistency.
  3. Pour into cups and add your desired toppings before enjoying!

Notes

  • This recipe makes a pretty thick frozen hot cocoa - start with less ice if you don't want it as thick. Already added too much ice? You can thin it out a bit with more milk/chocolate milk.
  • For an extra indulgent version, replace half of the chocolate milk with sweetened condensed milk! This will make it more creamy and less like a slushy.
