Sgroppino Cocktail

This gorgeous version of a Sgroppino cocktail is on our list of favorite mixed drinks! This recipe is a twist on the original Italian Sgroppino since we use Limoncello in place of plain vodka. It’s tangy and creamy, with a bright lemon flavor that tastes just like sherbet. The Sgroppino has has a refreshing, light and balanced flavor profile with a touch of creaminess. It’s truly divine!

Have you ever had a Sgroppino? The original recipe is made with lemon sorbet (or gelato), chilled vodka and prosecco.

This version mixes it up a little by replacing the vodka with limoncello. Extra lemon flavor!

Still 3 ingredients (plus garnishes, if you wish). Still delicious. Still citrusy.

Limoncello lovers will devour this!

Since we are using lemon sorbet this is very much a dessert cocktail. The sorbet adds an amazing texture to the drink. When you mix it, do so briefly just to make it pourable, but still slushy.

You can use any brand of lemon sorbet – and here is an easy homemade recipe I found, if you’d prefer!

Any Prosecco you like will work, or sparkling wine or champagne in its place. I prefer the natural sparkling wine (affiliate link) versions from Dry Farm.

This adds the bubbly, effervescent quality, making the drink (and maybe you?) feel light and airy!

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops lemon sorbet (about 1/2 cup)
  • 3 ounces Prosecco (or sparkling wine)
  • 1 ounce limoncello (or plain vodka, for original version)
  • fresh mint and lemon slice, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill your glasses: Before preparing the cocktail, put the glass in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to ensure the cocktail stays cold.
  2. In a small mixing bowl add the lemon sorbet and Prosecco, lightly whisk it until it has softened slightly.
  3. Add the limoncello and mix very gently. Take care not to over mix so the cocktail remains light and airy.
  4. Pour the mixture into the chilled glass. It will look very frothy.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lemon slice.
  6. Serve immediately. Cheers!
